The Department aims to revive the golden thoughts of our forefathers, to making the people cherish and apply them to modern living. The Department from its inception in the year 2002 started to walk towards its goal of growth and development in a steady manner. The mission of the Department is to impart the knowledge of real value of human being and to help them to solve their problem through professional help and also inculcating value based education and training so that they serve the community in a fruitful manner.

ACTIVITIES

Fieldwork is an integral part of Social Work education. Through concurrent fieldwork training, students gain knowledge on the practical application of theory learned in the classroom. Out of 30 hours/week, students undergo 15 hours of practical field training, which is the uniqueness of the course. The students are sent to Industries, to Hospitals, to NGOs and to villages depending on their subject of specializations.

COUNSELLING

Individual Counselling is given to the students at our Department either for their academic or personal problems.

INDIVIDUAL CONFERENCE
Individual Conference is a guided supervision given to students. Eight Students are allotted to each staff, who guides and supervises them. During this conference the students bring out their academic and personal difficulties of fieldwork, which are discussed, and solutions are given.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY

Students have participated in various programme organised by various colleges like Madras School Of Social Work ,Chennai (2002 batch), , Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kerala ( 2003 batch), Adaikalamatha Institute of Social Work,Thanjavur (2005 batch), BCM College, Kottayam (2005 batch), Bishop Heber College, Trichy ( 2006 batch) and have won prizes. They have further participated in awareness programmes organized by NGOs like Kongunadu Mananala Arakattali, Native Medicare Charitable Trust, the Young Womens Christian Association.on the eve of their Golden Jubilee Celebration and Won 1st and 3rd prizes in two events.

RURAL CAMPS

The department conducted rural camps at Aliyar (2002-03), Thirumoorthimalai (2003-04), and Dhali (2004-05), Kannamanaickennoor (2005-06), Lakshminaickenpalayam (2006-07), and Challappakoundanpudur and Vadasitur (2007-08) in Coimbatore district. In the camps the students identified the various needs of the village people during their pre-camp by means of conducting Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and organized need based programme such as Environmental Awareness, Eradication Of Plastic Products, Medical Camp & Blood grouping, Eye Camp, Sports activities for the school children, Rally, Tree Plantation, Legal awareness, career guidance to school students, awareness on AIDS and Cancer, Trecking, survey on Socio-Economic status of the tribal people and theme based cultural activities.

VILLAGE ADOPTION

The Department of Social Work has adopted two villages namely Arisipalaym and Meenakshipuram to make them as model villages by applying the various skills and techniques of social work profession. In the first phase preliminary survey was conducted.

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
The Department has initiated students exchange programme by inviting Social Work Students from Flinders University, South Australia for Field work Programme for a period of four months.Under this programme students from Flinders University, South Australia would come to the Department of Social Work, Karpagam Arts and Science College every year for the field work training. In turn after MSW, students of Karpagam Arts and Science College can attend special training at Flinders University for a period of four months. Flinders University waived the training fees.
