ABOUT US

Biotechnology is an important tool that can be applied to various economic sectors of special interest to developing countries, such as the production of food crops, live stock management, human health care, chemical industry and environmental management. The majority of developing countries including India lack the necessary qualified manpower to exploit such technologies.

The Institution has formulated Institutional Animal Ethic Committee and has been registered under CPCSEA (739/03/abc/CPCSEA) for using animal models for experiments.

The Animal House at present harbours Swiss albino mice and Wistar strain albino rats. We have obtained approval for breeding and experimenting with Guinea pigs and Rabbits as well. In future we will work with Hamsters, Dogs, Goats, and Non-human primates like Monkeys. We have separate rooms for animal treatment and breeding. We have an office, a Mini Laboratory and a sacrifice room within the Animal House. Two well-trained people, a supervisor and a technician maintain the Animal House.
